```
Sizing Guide
A secure harness starts with the right size. Always measure your dog before ordering.
```

How to Measure Your Dog

Use a soft measuring tape. Have your dog stand naturally on all four legs. Do not measure while your dog is sitting, lying down, or pulling against the leash.

A
Chest / Girth Measure around the widest part of your dog’s chest, usually right behind the front legs. This is the most important measurement.
B
Lower Neck / Shoulder Area Measure around the lower neck where the harness sits, not high up like a regular collar.
C
Weight Reference Use weight as a secondary reference. Chest/girth measurement should matter more than weight alone.
D
Breed & Body Shape Deep-chested dogs, broad bully breeds, and thick-coated dogs may need extra room even if their weight is similar.
Size Weight Reference Best For Fit Note
Small 20–45 lb / 9–20 kg Smaller active dogs, compact medium breeds, young dogs within range. Check chest/girth first. Do not choose Small only because your dog is short.
Medium 45–75 lb / 20–34 kg Medium dogs, lean working breeds, growing large-breed dogs. Good for dogs that need control but are not broad through the chest.
Large 75–115 lb / 34–52 kg German Shepherds, Labradors, Huskies, Golden Retrievers, similar large dogs. Most strong medium-large dogs usually fall here, but always measure.
Extra-Large 115–170+ lb / 52–77+ kg Very large dogs, broad bully breeds, thick-coated dogs, extra-large working dogs. Choose XL only when the chest and body width need the extra adjustment range.
Between sizes? Choose based on chest/girth first, then weight. The harness should sit snugly without squeezing, rotating, or rubbing behind the front legs.
```
How to Fit & Adjust
Follow these steps before your first walk to make sure the harness is secure and comfortable.
```
1
Open the Buckles Unclip the side buckles and loosen all adjustable straps before placing the harness on your dog.
2
Place Over the Head Slide the front opening gently over your dog’s head. The top handle should rest along the upper back and shoulders.
3
Clip Both Sides Bring the belly straps under your dog and click the side buckles into place on both sides.
4
Adjust Evenly Tighten the straps evenly. Avoid pulling one side much tighter than the other.
5
Use the Two-Finger Test You should fit two fingers between the harness and your dog’s body. It should be snug, not tight.
6
Check Movement Your dog should be able to walk, sit, turn, and lie down without the harness rubbing the armpit area.
7
Tuck Excess Straps After adjusting, tuck loose strap ends so they do not flap, drag, catch, or tempt your dog to chew.
8
Test Before Walking Gently pull the harness forward, backward, and upward. It should stay secure and should not slide over your dog’s head.
```
Perfect Fit Checklist
Before every walk, do a quick 10-second fit check.
```
Two fingers fit under the straps
Harness does not rotate or slide
Front strap sits high on the chest
No rubbing behind the front legs
All buckles are fully clicked in
Loose straps are tucked away
Dog can walk and sit comfortably
Leash clip is attached to the correct D-ring
Important: A harness that is too loose may allow a dog to back out. A harness that is too tight can cause rubbing or discomfort. Recheck the fit after the first few walks.
```
How to Secure Straps Properly
Strap security is one of the most important parts of using a no-pull harness safely.
```

Why Strap Security Matters

Loose straps can allow the harness to shift, twist, rub, or make it easier for a dog to back out. Loose strap ends can also catch on objects or become something your dog tries to chew.

  • Make sure all adjustment points are snug before each walk.
  • Tuck extra strap length into the elastic keepers or strap loops.
  • Keep the chest strap high enough so it does not sit low near the legs.
  • Check that both sides are adjusted evenly.
  • Never rely on only one buckle or one strap point.
Quick test: After fitting, gently try to lift the harness forward over your dog’s shoulders. It should stay in position and should not slip off.

Common Fit Mistakes

  • Too loose: the harness rotates, slides, or lifts too easily.
  • Too tight: your dog shows rubbing, restricted movement, or discomfort.
  • Straps not tucked: loose ends flap around or get chewed.
  • Wrong size: the harness cannot adjust into a secure range.
  • Chest strap too low: it rubs near the armpit area and reduces control.
```
No-Pull Design
The front clip is designed to help reduce pulling by redirecting your dog’s forward momentum.
```

Front Clip: Training & Pull Control

Use the front clip when your dog pulls, lunges, or gets excited. When the dog pulls forward, the leash position helps turn the body back toward you instead of letting the dog power straight ahead.

  • Best for pullers
  • Useful around other dogs
  • Good for leash training
  • More control in busy areas

Back Clip: Relaxed Walks & Adventures

Use the back clip when your dog is walking calmly, hiking, jogging, or moving in a more relaxed way. This position is comfortable for dogs that are already under control.

  • Best for calm walkers
  • Good for hikes and trails
  • Comfortable for longer walks
  • Easy everyday attachment point
Pro tip: Start with the front clip if your dog pulls. Once your dog walks better on a loose leash, use the back clip for more relaxed walks.

Simple No-Pull Training Tips

  • Be consistent: use the front clip every walk during training.
  • Stop when pulling starts: stand still and move again when the leash relaxes.
  • Reward good walking: praise or treat when your dog walks beside you.
  • Keep sessions short: several short walks often work better than one long frustrating walk.
  • Stay calm: the harness helps with control, but training still takes repetition.
```
Using the Top Handle
The top handle is for quick close control when you need your dog near you for a few seconds.
```
🚦
Best Times to Use It

Use the handle near traffic, doorways, vet offices, car doors, busy sidewalks, gates, stairs, or when passing another dog.

⏱️
Use for Short Control

The handle is meant for brief close control. It should not replace normal leash handling or be used to lift your dog for long periods.

Never use the harness handle to suspend, swing, drag, or lift a dog in a way that causes stress, pain, or unsafe pressure.
```
Care & Cleaning
Proper care helps your PetNest™ K9 harness last longer and stay comfortable.
```

Recommended Cleaning

  • Hand wash with cool water and mild detergent.
  • Gently scrub dirty areas with a soft brush or cloth.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove soap residue.
  • Air dry completely before using again.
  • Clean every 2–4 weeks depending on use.

Do Not

  • Do not use bleach or harsh chemicals.
  • Do not machine dry or expose to high heat.
  • Do not leave in direct sun for long periods.
  • Do not let your dog chew the harness or leash.
  • Do not store while wet or dirty.
Storage tip: Store the harness and leash in a cool, dry place away from your dog when not in use. Chewing damage is not covered by warranty.
```
When to Replace Your Harness
Inspect your harness regularly. Replace it if you notice any safety issue.
```
  • Frayed or split stitching at stress points.
  • Cracked, bent, or broken buckles.
  • Damaged D-rings, clips, or metal hardware.
  • Straps that no longer hold adjustment.
  • Large tears, deep cuts, or heavy fabric damage.
  • Chewed straps, leash points, or buckles.
  • Any sign that the harness may not stay secure during a walk.
If you are unsure whether your harness is still safe to use, stop using it and contact our support team with clear photos.

Harness FAQ

Quick answers to common PetNest™ K9 harness questions.

```
Will this harness stop my dog from pulling completely?
The front clip helps reduce pulling by redirecting forward movement, but consistent training is still important. Most dogs need repeated practice to build better leash habits.
Should I use the front clip or the back clip?
Use the front clip for pull control and training. Use the back clip for relaxed walks, hiking, jogging, or dogs that already walk calmly.
How tight should the harness be?
It should be snug but comfortable. You should be able to fit two fingers between the harness and your dog’s body.
Can my dog wear it all day?
The harness is padded for comfort, but we recommend using it during walks, training, travel, or outdoor activities and removing it when your dog is resting at home.
Is it good for strong breeds?
Yes. It is designed for strong and active dogs such as German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Huskies, Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Bully breeds, and similar dogs.
